The thing about cramps is that they're real only when you experience them.
I don't know how is it that after almost 2 decades of dealing with them I'm still not used to the onslaught of sudden pain that comes in a roaring tsunami lasting only a fraction of a few seconds enough to have one convulsing on the floor, not getting up lest another wave come soon.
