Blame Jamie Oliver for pushing the boards not plates trend and going overboard with it.
Most of his meals on the very popular 30 minutes meals show were presented on chopping boards and so aggressively did that trend sweep over restaurants that he actually launched his very own brand of sleek chopping boards that double as serving plates.
I mean it makes life easier and looks pretty to boot, and god forbid if the dish is even a slight bit runny or has sauce, because it's going to run off the sides, falling messily on to the table.
A chopping board in my opinion is only for chopping and the only thing it's good for serving is sometimes loaf or slabs of bread that can be cut into slices at the table, but, snacks for tea on a lavish wooden platter is pushing things that much.
Cheese board for wine is fine, but snacks for tea is a bit meh.
