I try out everything and have an above average varied palette. Acquired tastes are most definitely my forte since it doesn't take me long to appreciate a lot of foodstuffs one might sneer or be incapable of ingesting.
There are however a few exceptions, not in the terms of cuisine hate but just the combination of certain foods that I somehow do not appreciate and seem to prepare less of it and or never include it in my repertoire
Tomatoes and eggs.
Can't have tomatoes in omelettes or egg salads or anything egg. This combination just doesn't do it for me whatsoever
Potatoes & rice
A big no. I don't like to make anything rice that might have potatoes in it. If the recipe calls for addition of potatoes in a rice dish, I omit the potatoes and include something else. No pilaf, veggies biryani or any sort of mixed rice recipe of mine will ever include potatoes. I'm a lover of all things potatoes but not with rice. Somehow I feel it tends to make the potatoes too bland.
Cooked cucumbers
Cooked, warmed or any form of cucumber that isn't its raw crunchy self is a big no-no in my book. Can't be a cooked cucumber
Watered bitter gourd/okra
Any dish where the above-mentioned are cooked in a watery preparation (not gravy). No no.
Colocasia or arbi or taro
No. just No. don't like the taste, touch and or texture. Feels like a cooked glue stick and my soul will recoil at the merest thought of touching it to my tongue. This is one of those foods I'm inherently unable to appreciate. If this were the only food on earth I'd rather starve.
Tomatoes & curd
This combination doesn't make sense to me. Why put tomatoes in something already sour? If it's for the texture then out some other crunchy vegetable like a cucumber. Tomatoes just don't go with curd no matter how awesome a raita preparation it is.
Tomatoes & okra
Among the cardinal sins of cooking a dry okra dish would be the addition of tomatoes that tends to water it down. Add dried mango powder if you've to add sourness, but please, not tomatoes.
Cake & ice cream
A very popular combo of adding a scoop of ice cream to brownies or cakes etc, but for me this just doesn't work. The texture of grainy, dense oft fudgy cake with a cold melting ethereal mouthful of ice cream doesn't add up with my taste buds. I'd rather have them both separate.
There could be more..perhaps something's I've not tried yet to hate 'em..
But if I do find some more, there will be a second part to this.
