There was a time back in the day
When we rolled in hay
Listening to white stripes
joints in our mouths
worn denims, converse
wearing a smug air
unbeknownst our innocence
those were times
when cigarettes never stopped
cheap alcohol and Karl Marx
red hair, pink eyelashes
snogging every woman and man
who walked by
one of them with a phone
that rang Jolene
each time his wife called
so the other woman would know
I thought I'd cry
but there was always white stripes
there were always bad decisions
unreasonable reasons
unsuitable decisions
and I lived through that.
