all this and more

Well, go ahead judge me for I have binge-watched and binge-watching 'downtown Abbey' because why not?

It's exactly the kind of stuff I like t watch, isn't it? An old-timey, period piece, excellently shot, meticulously detailed, sharply dressed and accurately acted.

Dinner is not pizza today because I'm in no good to ta make it Dare I say I'm bored of making it, it's such a bother. All I want to do is kick back and relax.

arisu

Did I talk about how much I'm loving the series 'Alice in borderland' on Netflix?
I think I did talk about it and I had just started then, and right now I'm at a point where I don't know how and when to stop watching.
I mean I have work goddammit!

eye peel

It's been a while since I made any updates regarding everything that I've been watching these days.

The last series I had binge-watched was 'the break' while in quarantine after which I have personally that is to say on my own, alone not watched much except a few episodes of 'the wolverine' which is an anime which was good but couldn't hold my attention for too long.
I'm waiting for beastars.
Then I watched /am watching 'Longmire' a crime series set in the West with cowboy hats and all based on novels written by 'Craig Johnson' and though I haven't read any of his novels the series is definitely interesting.
It's a single episode sort of investigation, cop drama mystery with a few characters, a small-town sheriff, his deputies, friends and family. Everything keeps getting knocked between these few characters and every investigation is one episode long.
It is fun and not very intense but surely interesting.
I'm thinking the novels will be far better than the series in that they will be a really addictive read.
The main character 'Longmire' I really came to enjoy at first but after a bit, he felt like such a dinosaur dad, but nevertheless, it's pretty good and definitely worth giving a try.

Then I watched Criminal Justice, the Indian version and since I've watched all the other ones this one didn't waver much except it was too intense in a way that I don't much like and I might have been browsing the webs while it played in the background..
Not to take anything away from it, the acting and direction were definitely meticulous and some people might even love it. It was okay for me.

Then I watched 'Asur', with Arshad Warsi et al. and it was masala and watchable in a slightly captivating way but if you've watched and read death Note then you know how intense some mysteries of the 'good for the world' can get skewed in a way that can go horribly and nothing comes close to that. It's not bad but I've seen better similar tropes.

I finally caved in after seeing the 98% suggestion rating that Netflix flashed for a series which kept popping on my screen called 'Alice in Borderland' and now I don't know how to stop.
It's Japanese, based on a graphic novel of the same name, which I haven't read and can I just say that it's fantastic.
It has that gaming survival trope which I absolutely adore and two episodes in I am hooked.
This is one of those series I will binge-watch.

Right then, I shall now get to some editing work and curse this world some more.

Binge watch

I forgot to talk about this absolutely fantastic Netflix series I have recently binged on and I don't know where to start.

Well, for starters it's a Westerner and you do know my love for all things western and guns and cowboys and native Americans and horses and this series was everything mushed into epic awesomeness.

The series is called 'Godless' and my oh my how beautifully well made it is.

I'm so glad that this genre is still kept alive and is still going strong.

The settings, storyline, plot! oh the plot, the narration, colour, costume and acting. It's an absolutely immersive experience if you like Western-style movies then this is the one for you.

The last Netflix series along the same lines that I'd seen was 'the ballad of Buster Scruggs' and it was not good. I mean it was a bit boring and overdone. It hit too many high notes with cliche ideas and failed to, at least for me drive this gorgeous genre to a point of nail-biting, teeth clinching, heart-thumping storytelling and 'Godless' succeeds on all accounts.

It does oh it does. Steven Soderbergh has done it far too well and I recommend it to every western genre lover.

watching

Currently, I mean in the past two days I have found, it was actually recommended to me by the nosey people of Netflix a series called 'happy!' based on a graphic novel and having finished 'my husband won't fit' I needed something to watch during moments of de-stress and you are aware of my fondness for visual treats be it movies or series and so I clicked play and here I am four episodes in hooked and weirdly fascinated by the absolute madness that it is.
There is violence like violence should be. The kind I like. Not the glossy make believe kinds but the gory madness types that are only short of snuff and has a note of disbelief to it because it's meant to be funny. Oh yes, it's supposed to be dark and it is along with being wtf?!

Netflix stuff

Always on the lookout to watch something interesting for a short interval during lunch and having exhausted 'Arrested Development' and finding little interest in Bojack Horseman I trawled Netflix for something captivating because there's something to be said about watching a light-hearted fun moment which is witty and humorous and since I do not vibe a lot with very American themes like 'Parks and Recreation' et al it's usually adult animation that I gravitate towards and lo! last week I came across..how should I say this? An insanely funny, mature, intelligent and pointed animation which literally brought tears of laughter from my eyes called 'Aggretsuko'.
Yes, it's a Japanese anime and yes it's fantastic beyond comparison.

There are cutesy animals instead of people and don't let that turn you off because it really is pretty heavy metal.
An office girl who is a red panda with yellow fur stuck in a thankless job with horrible bosses and crushing work pressure releases stress through death metal in karaoke and oft in the office bathroom.
It had me rolling with laughter because the expressions, comic timings and insertion of death metal grunts come at all the right points and it has to be seen to be understood.

I'd seen some fleeting moments of the trailer for YOU and dismissed it as some young adult series but perhaps now I'll have to give it a watch because you..

South Park season 20 is out, almost 7 episodes in and I've not watched a single one.
Must rectify this mistake today itself.

This is a good season for animated series. American dad new season has started and south park too. So hell yeah.\m/

Book bait and sensational series

Life feels so depressing after you've finished an excellent book or an awesome tv series.
You almost feel lifeless, like there's nothing coherent to look forward to in terms of visual/word fixation. Something to curl up to at night, something to stick in your lap under a lamp light.

One day you're binge watching and the next day you're scavenging your hard drive for something unseen.

Ok, so I just finished this excellent excellent superbly awesome tv series called 'happy valley'. One of the nicest crime drama you could ever hope to watch. And I didn't just watch it, I binge watched it. Both seasons! In 4 days! Done!

Speaking of books.. finished 'moving pictures' last night and I'm a Pratchett convert. It had me salivating to turn each page impatiently, just so I could swallow that beautiful abstract eccentricity asap. I hung on the precipice of each sentence, gob smacked, awestruck and squealing in ecstatic mirth.

So book over, series over what to do? I don't know about series but books I've plenty enqued

These are the five books I intend on finishing one after another. No dawdling, no excuses. Just reading.

Today I start with Mr. Capote. How can I ever resist a true crime story? How can I ever? I'm the biggest sucker there ever is for true crime and I expect nothing short of spectacular from Truman.

Series recommendations are feverishly welcome! The seventh episode for 'preacher' hasn't come out yet, and I intend to jam pack each day, each minute, each moment with something. I shan't spend a fraction of any day wondering what to do or getting bored or sitting idle. (Apparently that's why I was down with fever too) but hah! to that.
