Kids are funny!
Sometimes they are absolutely transparent and unable to lie about certain things and goings on in their homes and sometimes they're barefaced little shits lying through their teeth.
Case in point their united question regarding a friend whose mother is a single mother.
'Why doesn't he have a father?' They asked me about their friend who's also my neighbour.
It caught me off guard.
'Everyone has a father' I told them.
'No no no' They Near screamed. 'He doesn't have a father. He told us'
Now that really bothered me because I know that kid for a few years now and he's never raked up this issue and we've never spoke about it so why would he brazenly talk about his father to other kids?
'Did you ask him about his father?' I asked them.
There was a small hesitation before they replied in a united No!
'Tell me honestly. Did you ask him?' I goaded the kids.
'No he told us on his own.why doesn't he have a father?' They chimed and questioned me again.
I somehow found that hard to believe and a sudden realisation dawned that the kid avoided coming to my house when other children were over, instead coming only when there was no one.
I looked at them straight and told them very plainly that everyone in this world has a father however it's their personal choice to whether know them or not and that they shouldn't be asking such questions to anybody, not alone his friend but no one.
I mean how does one even explain such things to kids but I think it's important to talk about such issues because kids are innocent in their stupidity.
'His father or anyone is not your or anyone's business. Your friend is all that is important and so you shouldn't bring up anything other than what concerns you.' I told them sternly.
'Ok' they muttered and smiled and two minutes later forgot all about it .
But this whole debacle left me a bit weirded out and worried too.
I'd hate to think of anyone especially a child placed in a position where he has to answer such questions, for which I'm sure his mother has talked to him about but the thing with kids is that they can ask uncomfortable questions in front of anyone at anytime and adults need to keep from looking flustered in such situations and tackle them.
I was caught totally off guard because they near surrounded me and there was small bunch of them, about 4 kids and they asked me like they were interrogating me.
Kids are fucking crazy.
